What is a Bookbuddy?

A Bookbuddy is a mentor who reads, discusses, and explores books with students.

Instead of traditional tutoring, Bookbuddies guide students through stories, ideas, and conversations that make reading exciting.

Sessions are designed to feel like a thoughtful conversation about a book, not a classroom lecture.

You might:

  • discuss a chapter from novel
  • explore a character's decisions
  • ask questions that spark curosity
  • help a cild express their ideas confidently

The goal is simple:

Turn reading into a habit children genuinely enjoy.

Bookbuddies Stories

Saanvi

St.Xavier's, Mumbai

"Honestly, getting a super shy kid to crack a smile and start giggling within the first five minutes is the absolute best feeling. It doesn't even feel like work, just hanging out and sharing good stories."

Nishad

VIT, Nagpur

"I go all out with the character voices and dramatic pauses! When we're reading together and I see their eyes light up right at a plot twist, it's just unmatched. A lot of these kids start out thinking reading is just a school chore, but once you make it interactive, they're the ones begging to read the next chapter. It's so rewarding. 📚"

Utkarsh

VNIT, Nagpur

"For me, it's all about empathy. Building that trust and watching a kid's reading confidence grow week by week is exactly why I love being a Bookbuddy. 💛"

Anish Ranjan

VNIT, Nagpur

"I just try to be like the fun older brother! We joke around, talk about our day, and then dive into some awesome stories. It's amazing how quickly they go from dreading reading time to actually getting excited about books. I've even had kids tell me they read ahead during the week just to tell me what happened! 😂"

FAQ's

Q: Do I need prior teaching experience?
No. We're looking for empathetic "elder siblings," not traditional teachers. Your ability to connect, chat, and spark a child's curiosity matters much more than formal experience.
Q: What if I have exams?
We're flexible. You manage your own schedule. Simply adjust your availability on the platform or communicate with parents in advance to reschedule during exam weeks.
Q: How do I get paid?
You earn a set rate for every completed session. Earnings are tracked automatically on the platform and deposited directly into your bank account on a monthly cycle.
Q: Is it audio or video?
Video. Face-to-face interaction is essential for building trust and reading together. All sessions are conducted via live video (and recorded for child safety).
Q: How much time do I need to commit weekly?
2-3 hours minimum. To build a strong bond with your mentees, consistency is key. However, you are in full control of scheduling those hours.
Q: How are mentors matched with kids?
Through shared interests. We look at hobbies, personality traits, and reading levels to ensure a natural "elder sibling" dynamic right from the start.
Q: Do I need to buy the books or prepare materials?
No. Bookstaken provides all the reading materials, conversation prompts, and discussion guides. You just bring your enthusiasm.
Q: Is there any training provided?
Yes. Before your first session, you'll complete a quick onboarding module covering platform basics, child engagement techniques, and safety protocols.
Q: What if I need help during or after a session?
We have your back. Our core support team is always available to step in, offer guidance, or provide tips for handling uncooperative moments.
